Virtually every occupation can be found within government and public administration, but some activities are unique, such as the military. Government entities at the Federal, State, and local levels provide administrative and regulatory services to residents. This cluster includes elected officials.

There are seven career pathways in the Government and Public Administration Cluster:
  • Foreign Service
  Examples of jobs in this pathway: Ambassador; Foreign Service Consular, Political, Public Diplomacy, or Economic Officer; Foreign Service Specialist; Diplomatic Courier
  • Governance
  Examples of jobs in this pathway: President; Vice President; Governor; Cabinet Secretary; United States Senator or Representative; State Senator or Representative; Mayor; City/Town Councilor; Alderman; County Commissioner; Congressional Aide
  • National Security
  Examples of jobs in this pathway: National Security Advisor; Intelligence or Counterintelligence Agent; Intelligence Analyst; Cryptographer; Staff or Field Officer; Military Officer/Specialist, Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine, or Coast Guard
  • Planning
  Examples of jobs in this pathway: Economic Developer; Federal Aid Coordinator; Census Enumerator; Town Planner; Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist
  • Public Management and Administration
  Examples of jobs in this pathway: City Manager; Town Administrator; City/Town Clerk; Court Clerk; Executive Director, Charitable Organization or Chamber of Commerce
  • Regulation
